Despite loss to Utah State in series finale, Nevada maintains first place in Mountain West standings

Nevada softball suffered a tough 14-4 loss in their series finale against Utah State, giving up 13 runs in the fourth inning, the most since 2011. Despite taking an early 4-1 lead, a series of walks and errors allowed the Aggies to score 13 runs on just four hits in the third inning. Madison Clark and Aaliyah Jenkins got the Pack on the board early, with Lexi O’Gorman adding an RBI single. Bailie Clark and an error also contributed to Nevada’s runs.

Unfortunately, Utah State capitalized on Nevada’s mistakes, scoring with a sacrifice fly, walks, singles, errors, and a grand slam from Kya Pratt. Jessica McPartland started strong but faltered in the fourth inning, allowing eight runs. Hailey McLean relieved McPartland but also struggled, allowing four runs. Ainsley Berlingeri pitched the remaining 1.1 innings, allowing just one hit. Despite the loss, M. Clark extended her hit streak to eight games.

Nevada now heads to New Mexico with a half-game lead over San Diego State and Fresno State. The Pack will face the Lobos in a three-game series starting on Friday. This loss will surely motivate the team to come back stronger in their next game.
