The Southern Nevada Water Authority is closely monitoring potential increases in construction costs due to the federal government’s tariff structure. The agency’s general manager, John Entsminger, presented the proposed budget at a public meeting, acknowledging the uncertainty surrounding tariffs and their impact on the economy.
The operating budget, totaling $729.7 million, and the capital budget, totaling $428.7 million, were presented with a total of $1.15 billion. Major projects such as the replacement of ozone generators and the installation of auto samplers are projected to cost more due to tariffs on China.
Among the water authority’s upcoming infrastructure investments, the most expensive projects include the Garnet Valley water transmission system and wastewater system, the Horizon lateral pipeline, and the Sloan/Lamb Pumping Station expansion. These projects are aimed at ensuring water service to growing areas in Las Vegas and Henderson and are expected to be completed in the coming years.
Water authority staff are closely monitoring costs and potential increases in tariffs to ensure these projects stay within budget. Despite uncertainties, the agency is committed to moving forward with the data available and will make necessary adjustments if needed.
