DOGE NEVADA, a newly formed organization comprised of tech professionals and economists, is aiming to identify and eliminate wasteful spending in Nevada’s government. President Brandon Davis, inspired by the federal Department of Government Efficiency’s efforts, is using technology to scour public government portals for any misuse of taxpayer dollars. The organization, which is nonpartisan, is committed to informing the public about any questionable expenditures they uncover.
Davis, a Republican with a background in fiscal responsibility, believes Nevada lacks proper oversight on spending and hopes to fill that gap with DOGE NEVADA. The group plans to use data from the state Controller’s transparency portal as well as other publicly available sources to identify suspect transactions. They intend to educate voters and empower citizens to demand efficient use of taxpayer money.
However, Nevada State Treasurer Zach Conine has raised concerns about the group’s efforts, calling them a potential threat to essential services. Conine argues that Nevada already operates with a lean government that is efficient and properly regulated. He believes that previous audit efforts, like the SAGE Commission under former Gov. Jim Gibbons and Gov. Brian Sandoval, have largely been ignored.
Despite this criticism, Davis remains committed to his mission of rooting out wasteful spending in Nevada’s government. He pointed to examples of past expenditures, such as a grant for a pickleball complex and an internet expansion project, as evidence of need for better financial oversight. While some defend these projects as necessary for public benefit, Davis and his organization remain focused on ensuring taxpayer dollars are used efficiently and effectively.
