Steve Sisolak considers running for Nevada governor in 2026

Former Democratic Nevada Governor Steve Sisolak is considering running for governor again in 2026, potentially against current Republican Governor Joe Lombardo. Sisolak, who lost his re-election bid in 2022 following criticism for his handling of the COVID-19 pandemic, has been encouraged by many to make a comeback. He is closely monitoring the legislative session in the next two months before making a decision.

Sisolak is not the only Democrat eyeing the governor’s seat in 2026, as Attorney General Aaron Ford has also expressed interest. However, whoever runs against Lombardo could face an uphill battle, as the current governor’s approval ratings have been on the rise. A spokesperson for a pro-Lombardo PAC dismissed the potential Democratic candidates, accusing them of offering failed policies and corruption.

Sisolak, who has been involved in campaigning for Democrats and also served as a Pritzker fellow at the University of Chicago Institute of Politics, is expected to make a decision on his candidacy soon. Despite facing challenges, Nevada Democrats are gearing up for an interesting political showdown in 2026.
