Oak Lawn Trustee Applauds Police Department for Apprehending Home Intruder
During a recent Oak Lawn Village Board meeting, Trustee Alex Olejniczak praised the local police department for their quick response in apprehending a man who broke into a home at 94th and Parkside. Olejniczak highlighted the use of additional technology, including drones, that aided in the arrest of the intruder. Although initial reports indicated the man had a gun, it was later confirmed to be a belt. The trustee commended the police for their efficiency and use of technology in maintaining community safety.
Olejniczak also mentioned the value of license plate readers in monitoring offenders driving in and out of Oak Lawn, as well as other technologies used for neighborhood surveillance and school security. He acknowledged traffic delays near Oak Lawn Community High School due to construction of a new fieldhouse and urged patience from residents.
Mayor Terry Vorderer reassured residents that privacy concerns related to the technology were addressed, emphasizing the regular purging of images from surveillance cameras. Trustee Ralph Soch commended the police department for their effectiveness and deterrent effect on criminals.
In addition to traffic and safety updates, the meeting highlighted the success of the Hometown Heroes program, which honors veterans with banners displayed along main streets in the village. Vorderer, a Vietnam Army veteran, announced the extension of banners along 95th Street and plans for more on Cicero Avenue. Families interested in participating in the program were encouraged to contact Village Hall.
As Arbor Day approaches, Oak Lawn residents are invited to join in recognizing the occasion through April 25 in the village, showcasing a commitment to community and environmental stewardship.
