Audrey Ware from St. Frances del Salles in Las Vegas and Priya Konduru from Davidson Academy in Reno were crowned champions of the Nevada State Spelling Bee, sponsored by the Public Education Foundation. The two students will now advance to compete in the 2025 Scripps National Spelling Bee. They faced off against 72 district champion spellers from 44 schools in Nevada. The championship words were “eucalyptus” and “baccate.” Melinda Brown, director of the Nevada State Spelling Bee, praised the students for their spelling and vocabulary skills, as well as their poise under pressure.

Audrey and Priya will compete in the Scripps National Spelling Bee, which is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year. The semifinals are scheduled for May 28, with the finals on May 29. In addition to advancing to the national competition, the students will receive the Samuel Louis Sugarman Award, as well as one-year subscriptions to Britannica Online Premium and Merriam-Webster Unabridged Online. Overall, their victory at the state level has brought recognition to their schools and the state of Nevada.
