Nevada narrowly loses to San Diego State in extra innings, falls short of series sweep with a 1-0 defeat

The Wolf Pack and Aztecs recently faced off in their second 1-0 game of the series, with San Diego State coming out on top in the final match. Both teams showcased strong pitching performances, with only one base runner getting past first base in the first five innings. Jade Ignacio broke the tie in the eighth inning with a single to right field, scoring Bella Espinoza. Despite a late-game rally by Nevada, the Aztecs held on for the win, splitting the series 2-1. Aaliyah Jenkins also made history with her double in the sixth, moving her into fourth place in Wolf Pack history for career doubles.

Despite the loss, Nevada still holds a 4-2 record in the Mountain West, sitting above San Diego State and Utah State. The Wolf Pack will have a quick turnaround with a doubleheader against UNLV on Wednesday in the Silver State Series presented by America First Credit Union.

Pitching was a standout factor in the game, with Jessica McPartland, Ainsley Berlingeri, and Hailey McLean combining for a solid performance on the mound for Nevada. Madison Clark also had a strong day at the plate with two hits, extending her hit streak to five games.

The Wolf Pack will be looking to bounce back in their upcoming games and continue their strong performance in the Mountain West conference. Fans can catch the action at Christina M. Hixson Softball Park for Wednesday’s doubleheader against UNLV.
