Critics of the Department of Education argue that limiting the federal government’s role in education would benefit states like Nevada, which consistently ranks poorly in education. Valeria Gurr, a school choice advocate, believes that reallocating some of the department’s budget to Nevada could lead to improvements in teacher salaries, classroom sizes, and school choice options.
Ford acknowledges the need for improvements in education but believes dismantling the Department of Education is not the solution. He stresses the importance of the department’s services for rural communities, homeless students, and those with disabilities. Ford plans to continue fighting against the dismantling of the education department to ensure that vital services continue to be provided to those in need.
