Three Nevada ballot propositions approved, two to advance to 2026

Nevada voters approved five out of seven statewide ballot propositions, with three becoming law and two moving on to the 2026 election. One amendment revised language related to public entities for individuals with mental illness, blindness, or deafness, while another removed slavery as punishment for crime from the constitution. A measure providing a sales tax exemption on diapers was also approved to help parents afford essentials for their children.

Additionally, voters supported a right to abortion initiative, adding protections to the state constitution for reproductive rights. Another initiative to require voter identification passed overwhelmingly, with 73.23% of the vote, aiming to ensure transparency and prevent non-citizens from voting. Advocates believe this will enhance election integrity, while opponents express concerns about potential barriers for legitimate voters who may not have proper identification.

The two propositions that did not pass were the Remove Constitutional Status of Board of Regents Amendment and the Top-Five Ranked-Choice Voting Initiative. Overall, these ballot measures reflect Nevadans’ support for a range of issues, from civil rights to election security, as the state moves forward with important changes in its laws and constitution.
