Ukraine warns China that Russia is not prepared for genuine negotiations | Latest on Russia-Ukraine conflict


Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba visited Guangzhou, China to discuss bilateral relations and the war, stating that Ukraine is open to negotiations with Russia if done in good faith. Amid China’s claim of being a neutral party, Kuleba emphasized that Russia is not ready to negotiate in good faith. China denies supporting Russia in the war and expresses concern over the humanitarian situation in Ukraine, agreeing to expand food imports from Ukraine.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning stated that while conditions are not yet ripe for peace talks, China supports efforts for peace and is willing to play a constructive role in achieving a ceasefire. The Kremlin expressed openness to negotiations but requires more details on the proposed terms. Russian President Vladimir Putin’s previous ultimatum for ending the war, including Ukrainian retreat and dropping NATO ambitions, was rejected by Kyiv.

As the conflict in eastern Ukraine continues, Kyiv seeks to hold an international summit to advance the peace process, aiming for a “Global South” country to host and including Russia in attendance. Chinese and Ukrainian ministers discussed the long-term development of bilateral ties and continued humanitarian assistance for Ukraine. The talks signify ongoing efforts to bring an end to the war, although significant hurdles remain.
